Brandon and Chris talk on our videoclip about dealing with the algae and why we need to trouble-shoot the problem. We checked in with some of our fellow aquapons, and sun on the equipment and beds is most often the cause when algae grow.
away from our system! To remedy our bloom of green in the system, we have covered our growing beds, fish tanks, and all other parts of the system with open water. Our system isn't picture-perfect right now (see the tarps draping over everything below!) but the strategy has worked. Our green tint has gone way done just overnight, and the tank we accidentally forgot to cover was again sporting algae today. We're happy to have worked with the problem and nipped it in the bud. As Chris and Brandon share on our videoclip, the presence of algae deters nitrates forming in a system. So we will just need to be a little bit more patient awaiting our nitrates because of our algae glitch!
Two steps forward, one step back! Our team does love that aquaponics has so much science and practical knowledge to it, and figuring out problems and a solution is a great passion of ours.
We can really say that every day we are at work teaches us something new and gets us thinking and problem-solving! We love that - despite our algae!
